Bold Color, Real Results
Our red mulch is one of the most eye-catching landscape materials we carry — and for good reason. The deep, rich red tone creates a striking contrast against green grass and foliage that instantly elevates curb appeal. It’s a bold choice, and when it’s done right, it looks incredible.
What Is Red Mulch — And What Makes Ours Different?
Our bulk red mulch is made from 100% recycled local Colorado wood waste — no pallets, no fencing material, no construction debris. It’s ground to a consistent, fine texture and dyed with a water-based, non-toxic colorant that’s completely safe for people, pets, plants, and the environment. The same quality standard we hold across every product we carry — locally sourced, responsibly made, and delivered by the yard straight to your door.
What Is Red Mulch Best Used For?
Red mulch makes the biggest visual impact in the right setting. It works beautifully for:
- Front yard curb appeal — the contrast between red mulch and green lawn or dark foliage is hard to miss from the street
- Flower beds and garden borders — red creates a vivid backdrop that makes yellows, whites, purples, and pinks pop
- Around trees and shrubs — like all our mulches, red mulch retains soil moisture, regulates temperature, and suppresses weeds
- Brick and warm-toned home exteriors — red mulch pairs naturally with red brick, terra cotta, and earthy stone finishes
- Statement landscaping — if you want your yard to stand out in the neighborhood, red mulch delivers
What Homes and Landscapes Does Red Mulch Work Best With?
Red mulch is a bold, intentional choice — not every home or landscape style calls for it, and that’s okay. It works best with warm-toned exteriors like red brick, tan stucco, brown stone, and terra cotta. It pairs beautifully with bright flowering plants and deep green foliage. It can feel out of place against cool-toned exteriors like gray, white, or blue — in those cases, our brown mulch or black mulch may be a better fit.

Frequently Asked Questions About Red Mulch
How long does red mulch last in Colorado? Red mulch typically lasts 2–3 years before needing full replacement. Colorado’s high-altitude UV is tough on dyed mulches — red may fade faster than brown in direct sun exposure. A light top dressing each spring keeps the color rich and the depth where it needs to be.
How much red mulch do I need? One cubic yard covers approximately 100 square feet at a 3-inch depth — the recommended depth for most garden and flower beds. Use our materials calculator to get an accurate estimate before you order.
Is the dye in red mulch safe for pets and kids? Yes — our red mulch is dyed with a water-based, non-toxic colorant that is safe for people, pets, and plants.
How soon after delivery can I spread red mulch? Plan to spread it when no rain is expected within 24 hours. Dyed mulch needs a short curing period after it’s laid down to fully set the color. Piled mulch on your driveway is fine in the rain — only the spread mulch needs the dry window.
Does red mulch work in vegetable gardens? We recommend keeping dyed mulch out of edible garden beds where it comes into direct contact with food crops. For vegetable gardens, our natural uncolored mulch is the better fit. Red mulch works great around the perimeter or as a path material between beds.
